Troubleshooting tips to recover the SSD if Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) errors are detected

Summary

If CRC errors are detected by the system, try the following:

  • Update the firmware of the drive: Intel® Memory and Storage Tool: Quick Tips on How to View Drive Details, Update Firmware, and View/Export SMART Logs.
  • Perform secure erase: How to Secure Erase an SSD with the Solidigm™ Storage Tool, or with third-party tools When to Run a Low-Level Format or Secure Erase on Solidigm™ (former Intel® NAND)  SSD  and Tools to Use.
  • Check in Disk Management if the drive is set as a Basic disk type. If it is not, change it to Basic type. Refer to Change a dynamic disk back to a basic disk for detailed instructions.
