What To Do When Solidigm™ (Formerly Intel®) SSD Is Recognized As A Portable Device In Windows* Operating System

Recommended Actions If The Solidigm™ (Formerly Intel®) SSD Is Recognized By The Windows* OS As A Portable Device

Description
The Solid State Drive (SSD) is not properly identified in the system as an internal drive:
*SSD shown as a Portable Device under Device Manager
*SSD can be ejected just like a regular USB drive

Resolution
1. Install the latest NVMe* driver for the Solidigm™ (formerly Intel®) SSD.

*Solidigm™ Storage Driver 1.0 (Legacy) For Client Solid State Drives

*Solidigm Synergy™ Software And Driver 2.0 For Client Solid State Drives (P41 Plus and newer)

2. Check Device Manager, and confirm the SSD is also recognized under the sections Disk Drives and Storage Controllers.
3. If the drive is properly recognized but still shown under Portable Devices, check with Microsoft* support on how to properly configure the system to prevent this from happening.

Note:
This behavior may also be related to a BIOS configuration setting. You may need to contact the system/motherboard manufacturer.
